TVPS News - What we've been up to in Berkshire

We have the greatest pleasure in announcing a brand new TVPS Patron
Mr Mark Barham

Mark has been a member and a volunteer at TVPS for many years, during that time he has done many roles - cooking at our drop-in, giving talks in schools, supporting those who are newly diagnosed and even representing our organisation at a garden party hosted by the Queen. a few years ago he decided to move away from Berkshire and whilst we tried to be happy for him we were also very sad that we had lost such a fantastic volunteer. But we needn't have worried because Mark continues to do so much for us, helping out at awareness raising events and visiting our drop-in regularly - he is never fazed by the journey - a distance of over 200 miles that he completes on a moped.

His dedication to our organisation, to raising awareness around HIV and being a voice for those who cannot speak out for themselves, not just with TVPS but with other charities across the South of England, made him an obvious choice to be an ambassador for our service.

Reading Pride 2017

We had an absolutely fantastic day at Reading Pride and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success, both on the day and behind the scenes. You guys are amazing!

HIV Manifesto

We're calling on the next government to stand with people affected by HIV.
Alongside twenty other HIV organisations, we are asking MP candidates to pledge their support for the HIV Manifesto.
We have come a long way since the 1980's. While stigma and discrimination remain, HIV is now a long term condition and individuals are living with HIV into old age.

HIV treatment in the UK is excellent, but not everyone living with HIV is doing well. The number of people diagnosed with HIV each year remains high and far too many people are diagnosed late with HIV.

Services which help people living with HIV manage their condition are facing continued funding cuts.

We have come so far. We can't stop now.

That's why we're calling on the next govenrment to stand with people affected by HIV and prioritise sexual health services.

Meet the fantastic Roger and Lorna! The have joined the TVPS team as our volunteer chefs in the Slough drop-in. Their home-cooked food is delicious and a big hit with our service users, especially the scrumptious deserts! They're with us on a Thursday, so pop in and say hi!

We need your unique skills and knowledge! Join us as a Trustee and help oversee the charity, steering us in the right direction. Our board of Trustees are from all different walks of life and they are what makes TVPS great!

Children in Need Funding

We are absolutley over the moon to announce that, in it's first funding round of 2017, BBC Children in Need has announced a new grant of £113,567 to TVPS. The three year grant helps us to provide support for young people affected by HIV in Berkshire. The funding will help facilitate peer group sessions, provide action plans that inspire young people to achieve their goals, advocate for services, ensure that HIV is kept on the youth agenda at a local level and support families coming to terms with diagnosis.

TVPS Lottery 'Win'!

We are absolutely over the moon to announce that the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund, has awarded TVPS funding over 3 years to undertake a life-changing project that hopes to reduce isolation and the stigma that surrounds HIV.
'Positive Futures' will see a volunteer mentor paired up with a person who has lived with HIV for a number of years. The mentor will help broaden the lives of long term diagnosed people, helping them learn a new skill, attending a class together or just having a cup of tea. The volunteer mentor, in turn, will learn about what it's like to live with HIV, reducing the stigma that surrounds the virus. if you can spare the time and would like to make a real difference to someone's life, get in touch!

Volunteer mentors will be given training, be DBS checked and required to give an hour of time a week. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a volunteer mentor, send us an e-mail - office@tvps.org.uk

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Waitrose in Maidenhead for selecting TVPS as one of the local organisations to be supported through their Community Matters scheme and also a big thank you to everyone who chose to put their green token in our section. Women of Achievement Awards 2016

On Friday (11th March) we were very honored to attend the Sue Ryder Women of Achievement Awards 2016. TVPS CEO, Sarah Macadam, was nominated in the category of  Women of Achievement in the Community. It was an inspiring day meeting so many women that make a real impact of the lives of others. Although Sarah didn't win her category, we are very proud of her and the nomination was well deserved.

You are probably aware that some councils throughout the UK have cut the funding of HIV support services. We are working together with the National Aids Trust and other organisations to campaign against these cuts. You can read our take on the funding cuts or the stop HIV cuts website -
